Kevin, following the success of 2 best male actors (movie) Tony Leung and Donnie Yen, himself a best male actor (TV Series) will also join the league to potray the legend Ip Man. All 3 actors who have/playing Ip Man have won in the best male actor category - who will be deemed the best?
In recent years, Kevin have showed extreme potential - all his TV series showing great result. Even when Ghetto Justice 2 is showing during the Olympic period and not yet showing any extreme results compared to the first installment, viewers are still sitting by their TV sets every night to catch the show so ratings are expected to rise gradually.
The initial plan was to finish 3 Mainland TV Series during the first half of the year and then using the 2nd half of this year to concentrate on recording his long awaited album. But he couldn't resist the offer of playing Ip Man after reading the script plus the attractive salary of RMB280,000 per episode (expected end revenue of RMB7million!) hence accepting this job. Because of this shuffle, he has been concentrating on recording his album with whatever time he has left in Hong Kong before returning to China. The ground-breaking ceremony for Ip Man was held on 31 July 2012 in Kunshan however due to the recording, Kevin will only be able to join the film crew sometime this week.
Over the years, there has been endless of Ip Man themed series produced but till date, the two Ip Man movies played by Donnie Yen have been the most successful. "Kung-fu Master" which is directed by Wong Kar-Wai and played by Tony Leung will be released end of this year - this movie has kept fans waiting for its release for more than 10 years! It will be released, tentatively, in December to.
The production company have in fact identified a few potential actors to play Ip man like Vincent Zhao and Wallace Chung but investors eventually cast their votes to reigning Best Male Actor (Hong Kong, Asia Awards & Malaysia) for this role for his popularity and acting cum martial art skills which was potrayed in some of his TVB Series like Gloves Come Off.
It is understood that the production company is interested to launch the TV Series alongside the movie. Kevin raise to fame in Mainland after acting in the TV Series Scarlett Heart. As mentioned, he was planning to return to Hong Kong after wrapping up 3 TV Series in Mainland to concentrate on recording his album (to be released within the year) and to plan his concert next year. The end result of RMB7million richer at the end of this series, will bring Kevin closer to his dream of owning 3 villas in Hong Kong.
