Produced by Suzhou Funa Television, Ip Man is currently in the midst of shooting in Kunshan. First time playing the great master Ip Man, it has been reported that due to the heavy fight scenes involved, Kevin hurt himself during shooting - he actually burst the blood vessels of his right eye. As not to affect the schedule of the shooting, he still turns up on the set everyday with his injured eye. He claims this is not a big deal and will not affect shooting schedule plus he will be giving up his holiday plans.
为打戏接受体能特训
郑嘉颖打戏拍得不多，也没有功夫底子，但仍决定挑战一下自己。为应付连场硬战的他开拍前已接受体能特训，而为了更好地贴近人物，他买来很多相关的书籍以及影视资料来观看，“我看这些东西无非是想了解更多关于叶问的东西，但它不可能在短期内把你变成一个武行，我还是要多加练习。”
Kevin has not shot many fight/martial art series and he has no martial art foundation but still he decided to challenge himself in this respect. To help him cope with it, he started physical training to get himself fit before shooting started. And in order to understand the character whom he will play, he bought a lot of related books and shows to study. "I just wanted to understand anything and everything related to Ip Man but understand that I will not be able to become a martial art expert overnight so I will need more practice."
首次出演叶问的郑嘉颖坦言压力很大：“以前我对叶问的认识是一张白纸，虽然自己做了很多功课，但心中依旧忐忑。每次我和元华、梁小龙等武打明星对阵都很紧张，为此我还网购了一个木人桩在收工后再去练。起初打得很疼，后来就有了感觉。”剧中的打戏对郑嘉颖而言是一个挑战，除了咏春拳，还要操练各种武器，200多场打戏把他累得够呛。
Kevin claims that the stress level is very high: "In the past I know nothing about Ip Man. Although I have done a lot of homework, I still feel uneasy. Whenever I have fight scenes with Yuen Wah, Liang Xiaolong etc I get very nervous and because of this, I have even placed wooden dummy in my hotel room so that I get to practice everynight after I get back. Initially it was really painful but after awhile you just get used to it." Fight scenes are a challenge where Kevin is concern. Apart from Wing Chun, he needs to know how to use various weapons. With more than 200 fight scenes, Kevin will have a very hard time.
不与梁朝伟比演技
由王家卫执导、梁朝伟出演叶问的电影《一代宗师》即将在年底上映，坊间难免会把郑嘉颖与梁朝伟的演技做比较，对此郑嘉颖表示只看过甄子丹的《叶问》，梁朝伟的版本则还未上映，而且电影与电视剧很难比较。他称电影是一个星期拍一场，电视剧是一天拍十多场，相信观众对电影与电视剧的要求肯定不一样。
Directed by Wong Kar-Wai, Tony Leung's version of Ip Man (the movie) will be released end of this year. People will inevitably compare Kevin and Tony's acting since Kevin's TV version is scheduled to be released around the same time. To this Kevin says that he has only seen Donnie Yen's version of Ip Man but Tony's not released. He says movies and TV series are difficult to be compare. You get a week to film one scene but for a TV series, you need to shoot more than 10 scenes in a day and he believes that the the demands from the audience will be different as well.
