XINMSN: TVB stars out in full force for StarHub TVB Awards 2012

The annual prestigious awards ceremony gave recognition to Hong Kong’s top actors and actresses for their contribution and work in showbiz

Hong Kong TVB station's top actors and actresses lent star power to the once-a-year StarHub TVB awards ceremony held at Singapore's Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre on Saturday night.
The night's events kicked off with a brief "green carpet" walk that was graced by all the artistes present at the show, which includes Hu Feng, Kevin Cheng, Myolie Wu, Moses Chan, Linda Chung, Tavia Yeung, Kenneth Ma, Chen Fala, Wayne Lai, Kate Tsui, Kenny Wong, Ruco Chan, Selina Lee, Sunny Chan, King Kong, Astrid Chan and beloved Canto-pop band, Grasshopper.

Following Ghetto Justice's success with its first season last year, lead stars Myolie and Kevin's winning streak continue in Singapore as the duo received top recognition with the "My Favourite TVB Actress and Actor" award for their roles. With season two currently airing in Hong Kong, the well-received drama bagged another accolade when it was also dubbed the local media's favourite TVB series.

Playing a rogue street lawyer called Law Lik Ah in the show, Kevin, who is currently filming his fourth drama series in mainland China this year, gave thanks to the role and support he received from fans.

For those expecting to see Kevin starring in more TVB series this year, you'll have to be patient and wait. At the post-show interview with xinmsn, the Chinese-American shared, "I'll be spending more time in China this year and have spent less than 10 days in Hong Kong so far. I just started filming my fourth drama series in China and will be doing lesser TVB dramas this year. I'll probably return to TVB series next year."
With Kevin's acting career in China in full-swing, Myolie, his onscreen partner for Ghetto Justice 1 and 2, admits that she has no intentions to advance in the Chinese market yet. 'It feels more comfortable to be in Hong Kong, plus I'll miss the place,' said the actress who was seen sporting a refreshingly sharp pixie-cut for a new role.
Out of the 30 awards presented at the star-studded function last night, TVB sweetheart Linda Chung went home the biggest winner with a total of three awards (My Favourite TVB Female TV Character, My Favourite TVB On Screen Couple and Best Smile).

Having been through her fair share of ups and downs in showbiz, the actress appeared to be in a complete state of serenity at the post-show interview with xinmsn. Very happy with her three wins, the Best Smile award was especially meaningful and carried the most amount of significance to the 28-year-old.

As compared to her initial grouses and unhappiness during her salad days, the actress has matured and now sees things in a different light. 'I just want to enjoy the present and just do what I have to do to be happy.'
When asked if she harboured any regrets in life, the actress replied in a mixture of English and Mandarin, 'Even when there are unhappy matters in my life, I feel that these things can make me stronger. I won't harp over many things. I pray about it and stand strong to face it.'
Astrid Chan and King Kong took on the roles as the show's emcees for the night. The duo's funny banter and quick-witted replies was engaging and entertaining.

As the most veteran artiste present at the awards ceremony, Hu Feng was presented with the Professional Spirit award to recognise his contributions and work in TVB drama over the decades. Still young at heart, the 80-year-old even put up a song and dance performance during the awards ceremony!

On bagging the Most Improved TVB Female Artiste award on Saturday night, a grateful Selina said, 'This is my first acting award since joining showbiz! I was very nervous on stage just now and didn't get to say the things I wanted to say.'

Ruco Chan, who went home with the Best TVB Male Newcomer award joked that he should have returned to TVB earlier if he knew he would be winning an award.

Tavia Yeung and Kenneth Ma play a married couple in Hippocractic Crush and both walked away with the My Favourite TVB Female and Male TV Character award for their roles last night.

When xinmsn asked Kevin if he could reveal and updates about the sequel to Scarlet Heart, the actor said that he recently met with the director of the show and was told the script is still a 'work-in-progress'.

'The possibility of the show being released this yea ris very slim. The script is not ready yet and we don't want to rush into it as it may effect the quality of the show since there are a lot of expectations on it.'

Kevin shared with the local media on his decision to do 'Ip Man' despite it not being his area of expertise. 'I lack confidence in doing martial arts related shows. I actually asked the director to delay the production of Ip Man so that I could have more time to practice Wing Chun but he said we had to start now.'

The actor hopes to challenge himself with different kinds of roles and feels that it is 'a risk you have to take' on showbiz.
